Your Next Read: The Light We Lost

Y’all know by now I’m a sucker for romance. I hadn’t gotten to read in a while because finals with grad school happened, then ~virtual graduation~ and honestly my brain was just tired, but I picked this one up and couldn’t stop reading!

Rating: 4/5 stars. There were a few parts where I was like okay girl you are annoying me a little bit. Also Lucy, the main character, refers to another main character named Gabe as “you” soooo much throughout the story. It just felt very pointed. The story itself is very captivating and I think it’s a sweet summer read.

Summary: Lucy and Gabe meet on 9/11. Both are students at Columbia, so they aren’t far when the World Trade Center is hit. Bonded by the tragedy that shifts every person’s life, they feel a connection after that day, but Gabe gets back together with his ex-girlfriend. Yet Lucy can’t forget about him. Time passes, they graduate and then they run into each other on Lucy’s birthday. Gabe and his girlfriend have broken up and immediately they rekindle the spark they felt on 9/11. This begins a relationship that takes them both by surprise only for it to end in heartbreak.

Eventually, Lucy moves on and meets Darren who is steady and thoughtful and predictable. Lucy still can’t stop thinking about Darren no matter how many years pass. He’s always the person she calls and she always answers. 13 years pass from their meeting until the end of their story.

For Fans Of: It felt like a crossover between One Day and If I Stay. (I can’t bring myself to actually read One Day because it’s one of my favorite movies and I feel like that will change when I read because the book is ALWAYS BETTER.) Any romance lover will love this one!
